Extreme Macro Worlds with NOVOFLEX

On this page, we present work by Björn LanglotzAndreas Marx, and Thorben Danke – three photographers dedicated to macro photography in the extreme range. While Björn Langlotz has spent many years as a nature photographer and author conveying the world of close-up and macro photography, Andreas Marx brings decades of experience as a studio and product photographer. Thorben Danke, in turn, uses elaborate focus stacks and specialised setups to reveal the fascinating wealth of detail in native insects at magnifications rarely seen before. Together, they demonstrate what is possible with precise equipment, carefully planned lighting, and the right NOVOFLEX solutions when going far beyond conventional reproduction ratios. All images shown on this page were created in the field of extreme macro photography and make visible structures that remain hidden to the naked eye – from the finest surface textures to complex forms within the microcosm.

For this highly magnified image, the subject was arranged in the studio using a precise macro setup. A CASTEL‑MICRO was used for exact focus shifting, along with a PRO Bellows with extension tubes and the Schneider Kreuznach Pyrite 4.5/90 to achieve the desired magnification and working distance. This combination allows a very finely controlled approach to the subject and supports precise placement of sharpness when rendering the finest structures.

The result shows the beetle at impressive magnification, with clearly rendered details and a three-dimensional effect. Using the CASTEL‑MICRO, the bellows with extension tubes, and the Pyrite 4.5/90, the shot could be set up with precision and the plane of focus accurately positioned on the desired part of the subject.

For this extremely detailed image, a CASTEL‑MICRO was combined with a Mitutoyo MPLAN 5x on a MICRO‑TUBE. The subject is precisely fixed using a Micro Tripod and Clamp, allowing even the smallest structures to be placed exactly within the desired frame. This combination enables a very finely controlled approach to the object and thus precise positioning of the plane of focus at the highest magnifications.

The result reveals the finest surface structures at extraordinary magnification and with strong three-dimensional impact. Thanks to the CASTEL‑MICRO, the Mitutoyo MPLAN 5x on the MICRO‑TUBE, and the Micro Tripod with clamp, the image can be aligned with precision and controlled down to the smallest detail.
